Five Indian Cities In Top Ten Global Outsourcing Hubs

Five of the top 10 outsourcing destinations in the world, including the number one spot, is in India.

In a joint study of 50 emerging outsourcing cities led by the Global Services magazine of technology, Chennai ranked number one in the top 10 list. Chennai is the capital of Tamin Nadu state in southern Indian.

At the number two spot is Hyderabad followed by Pune. Kolkata is ranked fifth and Chandigarh, ninth.

Hyderabad is the capital of Andhra Pradesh, also in southern India. Pune is in Maharashtra in western India while Kolkata is the capital of West Bengal in eastern India. Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab and Haryana states in northern India.

The other cities in the top 10 are Cebu in central Philippines at fourth place, Vietnam’s capital Ho Chi Minh at sixth, the Sri Lankan capital Colombo at seventh, China’s Shanghai at eighth and the Chinese capital of Beijing in the tenth spot.

Global Services magazine, a leading news resource for buyers of outsourced and offshore services, and Tholons chose the top 10 outsourcing cities because of their low cost, developed infrastructure, skilled workers and low attrition.

The study said Chennai is expected to have more than 73,000 workers at the top three Indian IT companies, TCS, Infosys and Wipro, by 2010. Aside from these firms, the city hosts Accenture, Cognizant, IBM, Satyam and Sun Microsystems.

Chennai is also a location for automotive engineering services, product development and health care business process outsourcing.
