Indians making inroads into US legal system

Apart from the BPO and KPO sectors, which already have bases in western Rajasthan, it’s the turn of the Legal Process Outsourcing sector to head for the desert state.

And that’s good news for the ITES industry, which has been hit hard by the recession-like conditions in the US.

The Big Apple is outsourcing legal services to India like never before. And Jaipur is emerging as one of the hubs of the trade. The law graduates in the Pink City are making their presence felt in the American corridors of law.

”Basically it’s good for young lawyers. If a fresher passes out of college, he gets a handsome amount and he can work for 5-8 hours a day. So the potential is very high. Currently, the industry is worth 2.5 billion rupees and by 2010 it may rise to 200-250 billion dollars, which is a very huge potential,” says Ajay Shukla, a lawyer.

A team of lawyers is in a huddle to find the legal solution to their clients sitting in United States. And if all goes well, their group would soon be a firm heading Legal Process Outsourcing in Rajasthan.

Although US laws are different from those of India but rigorous training have made Indian lawyers master the expertise to deal with American cases.

”This is lucrative from the money point of view because in legal field in India, we don’t have so much work so people are going towards this LPO for many purposes. It is also a glamorous job and involves chamber work for which we don’t have to go outside. We’ll do work in our chambers,” says a lawyer Bhuvesh Jain.

It is predicted that by 2010, India is slated to receive 60 per cent of legal jobs outsourced by the US. Now that’s what we call a lawful entry.
